President Trump has lost the US presidential election, and on January 20, 2021, there will be a Democratic president in the White House, with experts saying that the recounts are not going to make a difference and that the legal challenges are baseless, since Trump is refusing to recognize his loss, and so are several of his high-level Republican friends.
“President Trump is 100% within his rights to look into allegations of irregularities and weigh his legal options,” said Republican Mitch McConnell, the Senate Majority leader, in a speech on the Senate floor.
Secretary of State Mike Pompeo took it a step further in a press conference Tuesday:
“There will be a smooth transition to a second Trump administration,” Pompeo said with a laugh.
Courts in the US states Pennsylvania and Michigan denied more attempts by Republicans and supporters of President Trump to change the result of this month’s elections, as a Pennsylvania federal appeals court rejected an effort to block thousands of mail-in votes, while a court in Michigan declined a request to stop the certification of election votes in Detroit.
In his bid for a second term, Mr. Trump lost to former-Vice President Joe Biden in the November 3 poll but has repeatedly and baselessly alleged voter fraud, so far has refused to concede the election, as is tradition of the losing candidate, and in a tweet said:
“This Election was Rigged.” Twitter labeled the tweet “disputed” as there is no evidence of fraud in the US presidential election.
The win solidifies Mr. Biden’s victory, giving him a total of 306 votes in the electoral college – the system the US uses to choose its president, as Georgia and North Carolina are the last states to be decided, and Donald Trump is projected to win in North Carolina, giving him 232 electoral votes.
But he still refuses to concede, and a manual recount is to be carried out in Georgia because of the narrow margin between the two candidates, but the Biden team said they did not expect it to change the results there.
Mr. Trump’s team dropped a lawsuit in Arizona on Friday after it became clear his rival’s lead was unassailable, and despite his refusal to accept defeat, pressure is growing on him to acknowledge Mr. Biden’s victory and help prepare the transition from one administration to another.

PHOENIX – U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s (ICE) Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) arrested a dangerous illegal alien Friday who was wanted in Colorado on felony charges stemming from a sexual assault on a child. On July 23, the Summit County Sheriff’s Office in Breckenridge, Colorado, arrested and booked Rafael Ceba-Garcia into the Garfield County Jail. He was arrested on two counts of sexual assault of a child by a person in a position of trust. The victim in this case was a female child under 15 years of age.
“The coordinated efforts between the Phoenix and Denver ICE offices exemplify the tremendous work the men and women of ICE undertake to identify and prioritize the targeting of individuals who pose considerable threats to the most vulnerable,” said Corey A. Price, field office director for ERO Phoenix.
Indivior Solutions was sentenced to pay $289 million in criminal penalties in connection with a previous guilty plea related to the marketing of the opioid-addiction-treatment drug Suboxone, as
U.S. District Judge James P. Jones of the Western District of Virginia entered the sentence against Indivior Solutions pursuant to a plea agreement. Altogether, Indivior Solutions will pay $600 million to resolve its civil and criminal liability in this matter. In total, the payments made by Indivior Solutions and its parent companies, Indivior Inc. and Indivior plc, along with payments made under a 2019 resolution with Indivior’s former parent, Reckitt Benckiser Group plc, and criminal penalties paid pursuant to plea agreements with two former Indivior executives will exceed $2 billion. That amount represents the second-largest monetary resolution obtained by the Department of Justice in a case involving an opioid drug.
Suboxone, which contains the powerful opioid buprenorphine, is a drug product approved for use by recovering opioid addicts to avoid or reduce withdrawal symptoms while they undergo treatment for opioid-use disorder. In connection with its guilty plea, Indivior Solutions admitted to making false statements to the Massachusetts Medicaid program (MassHealth) related to the relative safety of Suboxone Film, a version of Suboxone, around children.
“Combating the opioid epidemic is a top priority for the Department of Justice,” said Acting Assistant Attorney General Jeffrey Bossert Clark of the Justice Department’s Civil Division.
“We will hold drug manufacturers accountable when they make misrepresentations that could affect consumers’ access to opioid addiction treatments.”

WASHINGTON—U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) – in collaboration with the Brazil Ministry of Justice and the Public Security (MJSP) Secretariat for Integrated Operation (SEOPI) Cyber Laboratory – arrested 113 alleged child predators across the U.S. and in South America, Nov. 2 to 6, during phase seven of Operation Protected Childhood (OPC VII).
OPC VII simultaneously targeted the distributors and producers of child sexual abuse material throughout the Americas. The operation was conducted across multiple ICE HSI domestic field offices and executed in coordination with the agency’s Cyber Crimes Center (C3) and with law enforcement counterparts in Brazil, Argentina, Paraguay, and Panama.
“This collaborative effort by ICE’s Homeland Security Investigations and its foreign law enforcement partners has put dangerous criminals behind bars and, most importantly, has led to the rescue of innocent children,” said ICE Attaché for Brazil and Bolivia, Robert Fuentes Jr.
“Thank you to our Brazilian partners for their unwavering efforts over the last five years to combat child exploitation through Operation Protected Childhood.
