 Kevin Dean McCoy, 28, of Tucson, was sentenced to 15 years in prison by Senior U.S. District Judge James A. Teilborg.

Silvester Ruelas, 50, of Peoria, Ariz., was previously sentenced to 20 years in prison, and two other co-defendants, Amber Worrell and Peggy Gomez, were sentenced to 10 years in prison and 5 years in prison, with all four defendants pleaded guilty to conspiracy to distribute controlled substances and launder proceeds from drug distribution.

 The United States Postal Inspection Service seized parcels containing illegal drugs that were en route to Arkansas, California, Florida, Georgia, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, Nevada, New York, North Carolina, Oregon, Pennsylvania, and Texas, law enforcement officials seizing a Seattle Seahawks Super Bowl XL ring, numerous gold, silver, and platinum bars, and an extensive collection of firearms, including a Texas Weapons System AK-47, a Mossberg 12 gauge shotgun, as the defendants used the vendor name “Iceman21” to advertise and sell heroin, methamphetamine, and cocaine on various dark web marketplaces, including AlphaBay, Hansa, and Dream Market.

 An MS-13 gang member identified as Daniel Flores-Ventura, aka “Necio,” 26, of Aspen Hill, Maryland, was sentenced to 30 years in federal prison for participating in the racketeering enterprise known as La Mara Salvatrucha, or MS-13.

 Flores-Ventura admitted that since at least 2015 he was a member and associate of the Uniones clique of MS-13 in Maryland, and also conspired with other MS-13 members and associates, including Vilas Sail Argueta-Bermudez, Willians Ernesto Lovos-Ayala, and Michael Campos-Lemus, who were also members of the MS-13 Uniones and Molinos cliques.

 According to the plea agreement, MS-13 is a gang composed primarily of immigrants or descendants of immigrants from El Salvador, with members operating in the State of Maryland and throughout the United States.

At least 26 people were killed when dueling gang members burst into a Mexican bar, blocked all the exits and then set the building on fire, the night attack a fresh blow to the government’s efforts to curb violence, with authorities suspecting it was overseen by a man who had been recently arrested but released.

Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador called the attack at the Caballo Blanco (White Horse) bar in Coatzacoalcos, a southern port city in Veracruz, “horrendous”, and Veracruz state Governor Cuitlahuac Garcia suggested in a post on Twitter that the attack was the result of a dispute between local gangs, saying 10 women and 16 men died in the bar, while another 11 people were being treated at nearby hospitals.

The attack was one of the worst mass killings since Mr. Lopez Obrador took office in December pledging to battle corruption and inequality.

Rondell Henry, 28, of Germantown, Maryland, was indicted on federal charges of attempting to provide material support to a foreign terrorist organization, specifically, the Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sham (ISIS), and interstate transportation of a stolen vehicle.  ISIS is designated by the Secretary of State as a Foreign Terrorist Organization under the Immigration and Nationality Act. 

Henry, who claimed to be inspired by ISIS, stole a U-Haul van in Alexandria, Virginia, then drove it to Maryland with the intention of using it as a weapon against pedestrians on sidewalks within the National Harbor complex along the Potomac River in Maryland. 

If convicted, Henry faces a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison for attempting to provide material support to ISIS, and 10 years in prison for interstate transportation of a stolen vehicle.

A 2018 study reported that because of cloud and ozone formation, air travel may trap two to four times more heat than that caused by just emissions of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases.
