The 17-year-old Turkish teen Feuzi Zabaat has received world-wide praise and admiration for saving the life of a baby girl named Doha Muhammed, as she fell from the window of her home in the Fatih district of Istanbul, just to end up in his arms, safe and sound in a true miracle caught on a dramatic CCTV footage.

Mr. Zabaat, an Algerian immigrant who works at a frame workshop on the same street, positioned himself underneath the window and caught the girl before she hit the ground, and Doha survived the accident without any injuries.

Her rescuer said he did what he had to do to save the girl: “I did what was necessary for the love of Allah.”

Doha’s family hailed Mr. Zabaat as a hero and gave him a gift of 200 Turkish Liras ($50) to show their gratitude. (ABC.AU)

Merrill Lynch Commodities Inc. (MLCI), a global commodities trading business, has agreed to pay $25 million to resolve the government’s investigation into a multi-year scheme by MLCI precious metals traders to mislead the market for precious metals futures contracts traded on the Commodity Exchange Inc. (COMEX), announced Assistant Attorney General Brian A. Benczkowski of the Justice Department’s Criminal Division and Assistant Director in Charge William F. Sweeney Jr. of the FBI’s New York Field Office.

According to MLCI’s admissions, beginning by at least 2008 and continuing through 2014, precious metals traders employed by MLCI schemed to deceive other market participants by injecting materially false and misleading information into the precious metals futures market.  They did so by placing fraudulent orders for precious metals futures contracts that, at the time the traders placed the orders, they intended to cancel before execution.  In doing so, the traders intended to “spoof” or manipulate the market by creating the false impression of increased supply or demand and, in turn, to fraudulently induce other market participants to buy and to sell futures contracts at quantities, prices and times that they otherwise likely would not have done so.  Over the relevant period, the traders placed thousands of fraudulent orders.

More than 5,000 people fleed their homes after a volcano erupted in a remote part of Papua New Guinea’s West New Britain,  as lava has cut the New Britain Highway at three locations, and flights into the local Hoskins Airport have been cancelled due to the ash plume.

Satellite imagery shows the eruption plume reaching heights of between 8 and 10 miles, and social media accounts showed people evacuating their homes, as a large column of black smoke and red lava spewed from the crater of Mount Ulawun, known to be one of the most hazardous volcanos in the world.

A Border Enforcement Task Force (BEST) team in Baltimore comprised of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers seized 332 pounds of cocaine in the port of Baltimore June 18, while conducting import trade enforcement detecting an anomaly during an x-ray scan of a container of beach chairs from China. Officers also observed that the original security seal lock was replaced with another lock. Officers discovered four large black duffel bags inside the container. The bags contained a combined 125 bricks of a white powdery substance that field-tested positive for cocaine.

The cocaine weighed about 151 kilograms, or about 333 pounds, and has a street value of about $10 million.

The container transited through Panama before arriving in Baltimore. It was destined to an address in Maryland.

Several migrant deaths, coupled with reports of “severely neglected” children at a Texan border patrol station, helped the US House of Representatives to approve a $4.5bn in humanitarian aid for the southern border, but the bill faces a tough path through the Republican-controlled Senate that is working on a rival bill with fewer restrictions on how border agencies can spend the money.

The Democrats’ version, contains several strict rules on how the funds can be used for humanitarian aid only, and “not for immigration raids, not detention beds, not a border wall”, a statement from House appropriations committee chair Nita Lowey said.

Some Democrats expressed concern over providing extra funds for agencies involved in the current situation, including those enforcing President Donald Trump’s “zero tolerance” policy which had last year led to migrant children being separated from their parents.
