A former supervisory deputy at the Kentucky River Regional Jail has been sentenced to 108 months in federal prison for his role in an unprovoked violent assault of a detainee, 55-year-old inmate Gary Hill who was being held at the jail, and for subsequently covering up the beating with another deputy jailer, Damon Wayne Hickman.

 As 30 Mexican soldiers were pulling opium poppy plants out of the ground with their bare hands in the heart of the mountain range known as the Sierra Tarahumara in Chihuahua, they also found a handwritten note, but it was not from the usual suspects containing ominous messages left next to slain bodies by cartel members. It was a plea for help:
