Autonomy options for the Marine Corps have taken a giant leap forward, with introduction of a system consisting of a sensor and software package that can be integrated into any manned or unmanned rotary-wing aircraft to detect and avoid obstacles (like telephone wires, other vehicles or large ground objects) in unfavorable weather conditions or to facilitate autonomous, unmanned flight. 

“This is more than just an unmanned helicopter, AACUS is an autonomy kit that can be placed on any rotary-wing platform and provide it with an autonomous capability. Imagine a Marine Corps unit deployed in a remote location, in rough terrain, needing ammunition, water, batteries or even blood.With AACUS, an unmanned helicopter takes the supplies from the base, picks out the optimal route and best landing site closest to the warfighters, lands and returns to base once the resupply is complete-all with the single touch of a handheld tablet,” ONR chief research scientist Dr. Walter Jones said.

A large marriage fraud ring operating out of Brevard County from 2015 to 2016 was busted by DHS ICE police, leading to the arrest of nine individuals identified as William Matthew Tex Price (31, of Cocoa), April Coleen Moore (24, of Satellite Beach), Khagan Mushfig Oglu Nabili (24, a citizen of Azerbaijan), Zafar Bakhramovich Yadigarov (26, a citizen of Uzbekistan), Valriy Tsoy (33, a citizen of Kazakhstan), Maria Rogacheva (28, a citizen of Russia), and Svetlana Vladimirovna Shakhramanyan (28, a citizen of Azerbaijan), all of whom have been charged and each faces up to five years in federal prison. Denis Yakovlev (40, a citizen of Russia) and Meghan Toole (28, of Cocoa) were previously charged and pleaded guilty for their involvement in this conspiracy.

“These criminals conspired to circumvent and exploit our nation’s immigration laws for personal financial gain. An investigation was launched in Mexico’s province of Sinaloa after incidents in which accused criminals were publicly stripped naked and beaten in several municipalities, the most recent being last week when four armed and masked men stepped out of a truck along with two young men who were forced to walk naked in the Culiacán neighborhood of Costa del Sol.

As they walked down the street they were beaten with a wooden board by their aggressors, who yelled “this is what happens to criminals and bullies,” with signs accusing them of crimes were painted on their bodies.
