A single capital murder charge has been filed against the man accused of killing 20 people and wounding more than two dozen others at a Walmart store in El Paso, Texas, a mass shooting US authorities are viewing as a case of domestic terrorism.
Texas Governor Greg Abbott said Saturday’s rampage in the heavily Hispanic city appeared to be a hate crime, and police cited a manifesto they attributed to the suspect as evidence that the bloodshed was racially motivated.
The FBI said in a statement on Sunday the attack “underscores the continued threat posed by domestic violent extremists and perpetrators of hate crimes”.

Billions worth of value was wiped out in Monday’s trade amid significant drops on global markets and a rapidly escalating trade war between the US and China.
The losses came after it retaliated to President Trump’s shock announcement via Twitter last week that the United States would slap 10 per cent tariffs on another $300 billion of goods coming from the Communist country, and about “a small additional” tariff ended a month-long trade truce and prompted China to retaliate harshly rather than de-escalate.
Bank of China’s aggressive moved to devalue the country’s currency to the lowest level against the greenback since 2008, to less than 7 yuan to the US dollar, making its goods more competitive with American-made goods on the global market, and is a move guaranteed to anger Mr. Trump who has railed against Chinese manipulation of its currency since before his presidency.

President Trump has condemned “racism, hatred and white supremacy” in an address following mass shootings that left 30 dead in Texas and Ohio, and called for mental health gun control reforms, the death penalty for those who commit mass murder and more bi-partisan co-operation over gun laws.
“Mental illness and hate pull the trigger, not the gun,” Mr. Trump said, speaking at the White House on Monday, without support to Congress anti-gun measures.
“In one voice, our nation must condemn racism, bigotry and white supremacy,” Mr Trump said on Monday.
“These sinister ideologies must be defeated. Hate has no place in America.
The president outlined a number of policies, including more co-operation between government agencies and social media companies, changes to mental health laws as well as ending the “glorification” of violence in American culture.

Beijing ordered state-owned enterprises to suspend further imports of US agricultural goods amid the ongoing trade war, after President Trump’s recent threat to slap 10 percent tariffs on another $300 billion in Chinese imports.
Chinese companies have stopped buying agricultural products made in the US, and Beijing is considering imposing tariffs on all US farm goods purchased after August 3, China’s ministry of commerce announced late Monday.
President Trump accused Beijing of failing to meet its pledge to buy “large quantities” of agricultural products from the US despite purportedly agreeing to do so the G-20 summit in Osaka, Japan in late June.
Earlier Monday, the Chinese yuan fell to its lowest level on record against the US dollar amid concerns of another escalation in the trade war, with President Trump accusing the country of deliberately engaging in “currency manipulation” and saying the move would “greatly weaken China over time.”
