2…………> Drug Gang Busted: Mississippi
Eleven individuals are facing federal drug charges in multiple indictments unsealed May 30 targeting a large, multi-state drug trafficking organization based in Mississippi, following a joint investigation by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), the Drug Enforcement Administration and the Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics.

According to court documents, the indictments resulted from an extensive Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force (OCDETF) investigation dubbed Operation Highlife. The Mississippi-based drug trafficking organization is charged with distributing more than 40 kilograms of methamphetamine, more than 3 kilograms of cocaine and over 100 pounds of marijuana illegally smuggled into the U.S. from Mexico across numerous states to include Alabama, Mississippi, Georgia, Texas, Tennessee and California.

Brandon Deshanta Miller, 32, of Dallas, Texas, and ten other co-conspirators are charged with conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute fifty grams or more of methamphetamine, possession with intent to distribute fifty grams or more of methamphetamine, and being a felon in possession of a firearm. If convicted, Miller and his cohorts face a maximum penalty of life in prison and up to  $30 million in fines.

3…………> President Trump’s Power: Article 2 US Constitution

US President Donald Trump’s lawyers have sent a secret 20-page letter to special counsel Robert Mueller, asserting that Mr. Trump cannot be forced to testify in the ongoing investigation into Russian meddling in the 2016 election because he has absolute authority over all federal investigations.

The existence of the letter is a bold assertion of presidential power and another front on which Mr. Trump’s lawyers have argued that the President cannot be subpoenaed in the special counsel’s probe.

Mr. Trump’s lawyers argue that a charge of illegal obstruction is incorrect because the Constitution empowers the President to, “if he wished, terminate the inquiry, or even exercise his power to pardon”.

A court battle is likely if Mr. Trump’s team argues that the President cannot be forced to answer questions or be charged with obstruction of justice.

Mr. Giuliani said last week that the special counsel probe may be an “entirely illegitimate investigation” and need to be curtailed because it was based on inappropriately obtained information from an informant and Mr. Comey’s memos.

4…………> South China Sea War: Impending Disaster?
US Defence Secretary James Mattis warned about the prospect of additional American steps against China if its “militarization” of the South China Sea keeps apace, saying Beijing was intimidating and coercing others in the region by putting weapons systems on manmade islands.

US President Donald Trump, backing the remarks by his Pentagon chief at an international security forum in Singapore, said on Twitter: “Very surprised that China would be doing this?”

Mr. Mattis said the Trump administration’s recent decision to disinvite China from a multinational naval exercise was an “initial response” to Beijing’s island activity.

He called the US action a “relatively small consequence”.

“I believe there are much larger consequences in the future,” he said.

China’s reliance on military muscle to achieve its goals “is not a way to make long-term collaboration the rule of the road in a region that’s important to China’s future,” Mr. Mattis said when asked to elaborate.

“There are consequences that will continue to come home to roost, so to speak, with China, if they don’t find a way to work more collaboratively with all of the nations who have interests,” he said.

China’s deployment of defensive facilities on its islands in the South China Sea is legitimate and necessary, a senior Chinese military official said here on Saturday.

The remarks were made by He Lei, vice president of the Academy of Military Science of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army, in response to remarks on the South China Sea made by U.S. Secretary of Defense James Mattis at the on-going 17th Asia Security Summit, also known as the Shangri-la Dialogue, which opened here on Friday.

The South China Sea issue has always been a “hot topic” at the annual Shangri-la Dialogue in recent years, so much so that some have described it as a “golden routine subject,” said He, who is head of the Chinese delegation to the Dialogue.

China has indisputable sovereignty over the islands in the South China Sea and the adjacent waters, a fact verified by historical evidence and supported by international law, he said.
