During these two minutes, the opposing candidate’s microphone will be muted.
After each has had their two minutes, open discussion will be allowed and both candidates’ microphones will be on, and the moderator Kristen Welker will not have control of a mute button in order to silence candidates, so things could still get wild during the open discussion section.
Shortly after the announcement of the change, the Trump campaign released a statement saying the President will still appear at the debate on Friday AEDT.
“President Trump is committed to debating Joe Biden regardless of last-minute rule changes from the biased commission in their latest attempt to provide advantage to their favored candidate,” Trump campaign manager Bill Stepien said.
The President himself called the changes “very unfair”.
“I will participate but it’s very unfair that they changed the topics and it’s very unfair that again, we have an anchor who’s totally biased,” Mr. Trump said.
