Russian President Vladimir Putin had some good news for the depressed world millions, badgered for months by the infamous and feared COVID-19 virus, kindly announcing that a vaccine developed by Moscow’s Gamaleya Institute has been given regulatory approval after less than two months of testing on humans, passing all tests with flying colors, and adding that his daughter had already been given it, with state officials saying they plan to start mass vaccination in October.
“Black Crow” so-called experts have raised concerns about the speed of Russia’s work, suggesting that researchers might be cutting corners, with the World Health Organization (WHO) urging Russia to follow international guidelines for producing a vaccine against Covid-19.
Calling it a world first, President Putin said the vaccine offered “sustainable immunity” against the coronavirus, saying the vaccine was “quite effective”, without giving further details, pointing out that it had passed “all needed checks”.

President Trump reported that a person has been shot outside the White House, forcing a Secret Service agent to escort him from the press briefing room:
“It was a shooting outside of the White House,” Mr. Trump said.
“It seems to be very well under control … But there was an actual shooting, and somebody has been taken to the hospital. I don’t know the condition of the person.”
Mr. Trump said two shots were fired in “rapid succession’ during the incident.
He said the shooting was “near the edge of the White House grounds” and he was taken to the Oval Office while “law enforcement” dealt with the situation.
The shooting took place near 17th Street and Pennsylvania Avenue, just blocks from the White House, and west of Lafayette Square, the park in front of the White House that was recently the scene of clashes between demonstrators and authorities during the Black Lives Matter protests.

A series of small tremors in California has sparked fears of a devastating earthquake on the San Andreas Fault, which extends 1,200 kilometres through the US’ most populous state. On 10 August, California was struck by a swarm of earthquakes, with the biggest measuring 4.6 on the Richter scale. This is the fourth time in 88 years that the state has experienced a swarm of tremors. California has a history of small earthquakes preceding catastrophic events.
The US Geological Survey said there is now a 1 in 100 chance that an earthquake measuring 7 in magnitude or higher will hit California next week. But the San Andreas Fault is capable of producing devastating events of up to 8.2 magnitude on the Richter scale. The fault consistently produces strong tremors approximately once every 22 years. The last one occurred in 2004.
The prospect of a serious earthquake has prompted authorities in California to introduce measures aimed at strengthening wooden buildings and brittle brick structures. However, hundreds of buildings in Los Angeles still remain at risk of collapsing.

Russian President Vladimir Putin earlier in the day announced that the country’s Gamaleya Research Institute had registered the world’s first anti-coronavirus vaccine and that production will commence in the near future, marking a possible end to the global pandemic.
Production of the first doses of the vaccine against COVID-19 has already begun at the Russian company AFK Sistema’s Binnopharm pharmaceutical factory. The plant is expected to make up to 1.5 million doses per year and is only one of many working on the rapid delivery of the much-needed drug.
